Scarecrow Number 1

This is the scarecrow for the Scottsville church of Christ. Below is the construction photos so you can see how we built it.  Photos of our progress will be post throughout the month of September, so come back often.

 
I like to start with a good base.  This old metal umbrella stand works great.  We are going to have our scarecrow sitting on a pile of rocks so it should be stable as it will be sitting on an open sidewalk.  The wood plate is his bottom.  Unfortunately it split on me so repairs were made.  Waste no want not.

Don't forget the pants.  Here I had to remove two screws to lift the base off the support then. cut hole in the pants before reassemble.  This is were drywall screws work best.  Also I use Bass wood from my dads work shop that was used to make the three pirates last year.

Final stages today is the addition of a rib cage.  Chicken wire seems to work well as it is easy to staple to the wood base.

We will be working on the head and face later.  Do you see the wood carved face I used last year.  This is a carving my dad did a few years ago.  Boy I wish I had his skills.
